About the Portuguese language

Portuguese is one of the few Romance languages and this group make up an important number of foreign language speakers: over 800 million. The Romance languages come from Latin and make up for many different dialects and official country languages including French, Italian and Spanish amongst many others. Portuguese is an official language in 9 countries in various continents,
with its most well-know countries being Portugal and Brazil. The language differs between each country as dialects have been implemented and used depending on the surrounding areas of the country. So Portugal Portuguese is a European language, but Brazil Portuguese is not. The language uses various dialects from the natives with many of their words being borrowed from different languages.
Portuguese is the 6th most widely used language in the world which is likely to be because of the amount of countries who have adopted it as their official language. There are over 252 million speakers with most of them coming from Brazil, which is understandable due to the sheer size of the country. The Portuguese language spread from Portugal in the 1500s when the Portuguese colony claimed other lands. These lands soon became independent but chose to keep the language, culture and traditions of the Portuguese.
Portugal chose to keep their conquered countries close by taking advantage of South Africa, where as Spaniards chose to further their mission in to America. The Treaty of Tordesillas eventually decided that splitting the conquered countries between Spain and Portugal would be the fairest decision. When interpreting Portuguese work, Portuguese books have been discovered in these countries about the previous civilians.
The different conquerors’ of each country have also contributed to the changes in dialects as each conqueror mixed their native language with that of the Portuguese, so you can see how the different dialects have come about. This shows the importance of Portuguese interpreting and ensuring that the dialect is translated correctly and understood thoroughly. Not all dialects can be interpreted thoroughly unless by the native speakers and this is where the importance of getting these native interpreters on board is a necessity.Read more about Portuguese interpreting services..
